Zamek Królewski w Sanoku

Zamek Królewski w Sanoku to historyczna warownia o korzeniach sięgających średniowiecza. Obecnie jest siedzibą Muzeum Historycznego i znajduje się przy ulicy Zamkowej w Sanoku. W drugiej połowie XVII wieku zamek był częścią starostwa sanockiego.

Pierwsza wzmianka o grodzie w Sanoku pochodzi z roku 1150 i została zapisana w ruskim Kodeksie Hipackim. Kronikarz opisuje w niej wyprawę króla Gejzy II na Ruś, w trakcie której zajęte zostały grody Sanok i Przemyśl. Obecna lokalizacja zamku to wzgórze o wysokości 317 m n.p.m. nad stromym zboczem od strony wschodniej, u podnóża którego płynęła rzeka San, obecnie znana jako Potok Płowiecki. Badania archeologiczne potwierdziły istnienie wczesnośredniowiecznego grodu obronnego po północnej stronie wzgórza zamkowego.
