Brama Opatowska

Brama Opatowska to gotycka brama wjazdowa w Sandomierzu, wzniesiona w drugiej połowie XIV wieku z inicjatywy Kazimierza Wielkiego, jako element miejskich murów obronnych. W XVI wieku została wzbogacona o renesansową attykę, ufundowaną przez miejscowego lekarza Stanisława Bartolona.

Podczas powstania styczniowego, 8 lutego 1863 roku, Brama Opatowska była miejscem dramatycznych wydarzeń. Powstańcy, rozgromieni w bitwie pod Słupczą, próbowali bronić się za barykadą ustawioną w bramie, jednak zostali szybko pokonani przez atakujących ich Kozaków.

Brama Opatowska jest jedyną zachowaną spośród czterech bram, które niegdyś prowadziły do miasta. Pozostałe to bramy: Zawichojska, Lubelska i Krakowska. W Sandomierzu istniały także dwie furty, z których przetrwała tylko jedna – Dominikańska, znana jako Ucho Igielne.
